Smithland

Come enjoy a restful tranquil stay in beautiful Idaho.
Our nearest neighbors are miles away.
All our rooms are new and clean with their own bathroom.
Enjoy a breakfast of our homemade sourdough waffles.

Steve and Aprille Smith welcome you to their bed and breakfast.  Our 480 acre dry-farm/ranch was homesteaded by the Matkin family after WWI.  We purchased it in 1973.  It is located 1 1/3 miles east of Red Rock Pass, which was formed by Historic Lake Bonneville when it broke through, emptying into the ocean.
The original log home was used as a granary and took lots of work to refurbish.  In the seventies we added on.  In October 1999 we began the addition for the bed and breakfast.  The new addition features hand peeled logs, solar electricity, and a collection of kerosene lamps.
Steve is a carpenter/contractor.  Aprille was a special education teacher, Vista Volunteer, and perpetual student.
We serve a full breakfast including such treats as sour dough waffles, pancakes , homemade bread, or muffins.  If you don’t want to eat dinner or lunch on the way or drive to town, ask about potluck, charcoal or dutch-oven cooking, or you can raid the garden in season.
The commons area includes a covered porch ,which faces west, affording sunset views.   For those who prefer sunrise, they may breakfast on the east deck.  The indoor breakfast area will seat up to ten people.  The sitting area includes a bay window and a free standing  propane fire place.
Our Great Pyrenees dog, greets everyone with a bark and a vigorously wagging tail.  Our cat is usually perched on his back for a nap.  Three mares complete the menagerie.  You may wish to bring your own horses to join them.  The nearest neighbors include coyotes, deer, pheasants and occasionally elk or moose.
Swimming is available year round at nearby Downata Hot Springs, or world famous Lava Hot Springs is about thirty-five miles away.  Seasonal activities include hunting, cross-country skiing, snow-mobiling, bird watching, hiking, biking, or just relaxing and watching the local flora and fauna.  Golfing, tennis, fishing, and downhill skiing are within driving distance.
We have a variety of books to read, or bring your own.  Ask about accommodations for  children or limited accommodations for outdoor pets.   Ask about wagon rides, drawn by Belgian horses.
